2013 saw the premier of Super Cup, an annual paintball event on a national scale. The setting for the first event was the beautiful Forever Resort Gariep and was selected for its location in the middle of South Africa. The weekend of the 6-8 December saw over 50 teams competing in two different divisions in both the 3-man and 5-man formats.

The 3-man format saw a total of 32 teams from across South Africa and Namibia competing in two divisions (Div4 and Div5), while the 5-man format saw a total of 20 teams from across South Africa competing in two divisions (Div3 and Div4) to see who would be crowned the national and provincial winners. We were also privileged to have American PSP Pro team Houston Heat attend the event , along with Dynasty Pro player Ryan Greenspan and Ex-Joy Division Pro player Maximus Lundqvist. Houston Heat played a series of exhibition games against local teams in an open challenge of Friday and Saturday.  International media included Rody Huibers from RSH Media (Netherlands) as well as Joel Pitra from Social Paintball (America) and Ryan Kenny from RK Productions (America).

The event also boasted a trade show where South African vendors and various international representatives for their brands promoted their latest products on offer. These included the much awaited GI Sportz Pulse loader, the Dye DM14 and the Planet Eclipse Geo3.1.

During the 2013 SARPL season, teams competed in both the 3-man and 5-man formats in the five provinces where official SARPL events are held (Gauteng, Kwa-Zulu Natal, Western Cape, Eastern Cape and the Free State). For a team to win a provincial leg, the top four scores, plus their scores from Super Cup were added together to rank the teams. The ranking of the national leg worked in a similar way, but saw the overall top four scores being added together, plus their Super Cup scores.

The 2013 national champions for Division 3, race-to-2 in the 5-man format are Team Dynamix from Gauteng. Team Dynamix has made a name for themselves internationally as they also won the Naza World Cup Asia event that was held in November 2013 in Langkawi Malaysia. They competed in Division 1 against teams from across the globe and some of their players also competed on the team that represented the South African squad at the first Paintball World Cup in Paris during September this year, as well as the Inter-contintental Cup that was hosted during the Naza World Cup Asia in November.

The 2013 national champions for Division 4, race-to-2 in the 5-man format are Brutal Affliction from Gauteng. Brutal Affliction has not been on the paintball scene very long, but they have proven that with sheer determination, commitment, practice and hard work you can make it to the top.

The 2013 national champions for Division 4, race-to-2 in the 3-man format are Dalibor Fight from Gauteng.

The 2013 national champions for Division 5, race-to-2 in the 3-man format are Equalizers from Kwa-Zulu Natal.

A big thank you

A big thank you goes out to the SARPL staff and all the volunteers who helped with the setting up and running of the event, and the marshals who stood in the hot African sun for three days. Without you guys, Super Cup would not have been the success that it was.

A big thank you also goes out to our sponsors and contributors, GI Sportz, Paintball City, Fireworks for Africa, Powder-Lak, Paintball Shop, Planet Eclipse, Valken,  Blades and Triggers, Empire, HK Army, DYE Paintball, Sup’Air and Virtue.

Thank you also to our media partners Social Paintball, RSH Media, Daniel Coetzee Photography, Ryan Kenny Productions and Switch Multimedia that attended the event to capture the moments forever.

We are looking forward to a bigger and better event for 2014.
